In response to the second wave of DDoS attacks, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) issued an advisory for financial institutions and technology service providers, describing the attacks and outlining recommended mitigation efforts and responses. The advisory also reiterates warnings that these attacks could be used in conjunction with attacks designed to facilitate fraudulent wire transfers.

The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) issued a proprietary alert regarding the recent and increased distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks launched against multiple and smaller financial institutions. The advisory provides an overview of the attacks, as well as suggested advance mitigation strategies, key indicators, and information on escalation and reporting.

President Obama issued a Presidential Policy Directive on Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience and an Executive Order for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. Presidential Policy Directive-21 (which will replace Homeland Security Presidential Directive-7, issued in 2003) and the Executive Order will enhance both the physical and cyber security and resilience of our nation's critical infrastructure.
